Wisdom
Information
Prevent
Treat
Vital
(The other acronym we need is OODA. Observe, Orient, Decide, Act. John Boyd.)
The first two, W & I, wisdom and information, are not ACTION. They are pre-action, but if you only have "wisdom" and "information" you're still not doing anything. Action is only prevent, treat & vital. I think!
Anyway, here we go:
Wisdom
Wisdom is our values & priorities. What we feel is important. I'm probably not going to detail this much. Everyone will have their own.
For example, personally, I'd like the whole world to "make it". Whatever that means. So when I tried thinking of a #PandemicFluGame, one rule would have been "you get more points if others do better thanks to your help".
Information
Information is science, recommendations, and situational awareness.
Science is knowing how the virus works: how it's transmitted and so on. Also, how the epidemic works: incubation periods and suchlike.
Recommendations are the more or less official guidelines. Websites and PDF files and articles and flyers.
Situational awareness is knowing what's going on, with the epidemic and vital stuff, at the global and local level. Information systems.
Prevent
The disease is frequent enough, severe enough, disruptive enough that we want to slow it down.
Vaccines are far into the future.
Treating the ill might have some preventive effect: if we could shorten disease the ill would shed virus for a shorter period, right? But health care workers may catch it. So not sure this is actually preventive. 🤔
We're left with "non-pharmaceutical interventions" (NPI), also known as "community mitigation strategies". More details in another post.
Treat
No specific treatment. But we'll treat each other as best we can.
At home. In primary care. In hospitals. In old people' homes etc. In specialised places. In jail. Etc.
We need medications & devices.
Vital
We're seeing the effect of disruption.
Vital = needed to stay alive. That's "simple critical infrastructure maps" (SCIM) (Vinay Gupta). See ResilienceMaps.org.
-o-
So, this is an incomplete hand-written version of the thing. Action is the columns.
